It’s easy to reach the bay for a stroll, a sunset or a family outing, before returning to the calm of the campsite. You’ll enjoy the proximity of the seaside, the bay’s famous tourist sites and a preserved natural environment, between the Pointe du Hourdel and Le Crotoy, facing the English Channel.

Here at La Croix l’Abbé campsite, we’ve got it all covered: a heated indoor swimming pool, fully-equipped, recently-built mobile homes, an on-site restaurant and snack bar, and daily seasonal entertainment.

The beach at Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is only 800 meters away on foot, Le Crotoy is 15 minutes away by car, Cayeux-sur-Mer is 20 minutes away, the Pointe du Hourdel is 10 minutes away, and Brighton-les-Pins is around 25 minutes away. Our seafront campsite makes it easy for you to discover the Picardy Coast at your own pace.

In the Baie de Somme, sea bathing conditions can vary according to beach and tide. At Saint-Valery-sur-Somme or Le Crotoy, swimming is prohibited due to currents. Near Cayeux-sur-Mer, the water in the Channel remains cool, even in summer, with temperatures around 17 to 18°C.

That’s why choosing a campsite with a heated indoor swimming pool in the Baie de Somme is ideal if you want to enjoy the pleasures of the water throughout your stay.

Our indoor swimming pool is heated to 28°C and is open from April 1 to November 1. This means that swimming is possible every day, whether the weather is sunny or cooler, making it easier to organize your vacation, especially with the whole family.

The aquatic area includes :

  • an indoor pool equipped with a balneotherapy system featuring massaging jets and relaxing seats,
  • a paddling pool with mini-toboggan, water games and mushroom sprinkler,
  • a water playground for children aged 3 to 8,
  • a relaxation area with deckchairs by the pool.

Daytime and evening entertainment

From morning to night, days are freely organized around games, sports activities and moments of relaxation. Petanque, table tennis, fitness, archery… everyone participates at their own pace, with no obligation. The idea is simple: enjoy, meet and have fun, in a vacation spirit.

During the school vacations, children and teenagers are welcome at the children’s and teenagers’ clubs, free of charge. Younger children can also play freely on the campsite’s specially designed playground.

In the evenings, it’s all about conviviality. Karaoke, games, concerts, shows or themed evenings punctuate the season, up to several times a week in summer. Simple, festive moments to share with family and friends, to end the day in good spirits.

Nautical activities in the Baie de Somme

As well as swimming, the Côte Picarde and Baie de Somme offer a wealth of activities for thrill-seekers and nature lovers.

Char à voile in Le Crotoy: the queen of the bay, especially in Quend and Fort-Mahon. At low tide, the beaches open up and become a playground for sand yachts. Initiation from age 7. Reservations required. Best period: March to October, tide coefficient >70 for maximum space.

Kitesurfing at Cayeux-sur-Mer: A well-known spot on the Picardy coast. Wind’ô Somme and Kite Sensation offer courses for all levels. Experienced kitesurfers enjoy north-westerly winds from April to September. Warning: exposed spot, minimum intermediate level.

Foot fishing in Saint-Valery and Le Hourdel: At low tide (coefficient >80), bring a rake and bucket to harvest cockles, razor clams and shrimp. Regulatory quotas: 5kg/person for cockles, 100 razor clams maximum. Please respect the minimum size (3cm for cockles). Tide calendar available at campsite reception. Most productive clam beds: opposite the Pointe du Hourdel, 2 hours before low tide.

Sea kayaking and stand-up paddling: supervised kayak outings to the seal beds. The calm waters of the bay are ideal for beginners. Avoid days with strong currents.

Sailing and catamarans: beginners’ courses, light sailing courses, Hobie Cat 16 rental, enjoy the winds of the Bay from April to September. Remember to anticipate your outings by booking now for July and August.

Longe-côte (aquatic walking): try longe-côte in Le Crotoy or Cayeux, an invigorating aquatic walk in the open sea, ideal for circulation. Accessible to all for €10 a session (wetsuit available for hire), this activity is enjoyed in group outings with equipment provided.

Cross the bay on foot: the signature Baie de Somme experience. With a certified nature guide, cross 8 km of sand and mud from Le Crotoy to Saint-Valery (or vice versa). Duration: 2h30-3h. Reservations essential with the Tourist Office (03 22 60 93 50) or private guides. Equipment: old sneakers that can get wet + walking stick. Provide a vehicle at both ends or use the tourist train for the return journey.

Petit train de la Baie de Somme: between Le Crotoy and Saint-Valery, the Chemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme takes you through the countryside on a Belle Époque steam train. Tickets on cfbs.eu or at the station. Our tip: morning train (10 a.m.) to enjoy the light over the marshes, then lunch in Le Crotoy.

Vélomaritime (EuroVelo 4): follow the coastline and discover exceptional marine panoramas between Saint-Valery, Le Crotoy and Cayeux. This safe, 100%-flat section allows you to cycle the Baie de Somme in complete peace of mind, with breathtaking views out to sea at every pedal stroke.

Seal watching: Pointe du Hourdel: up to 300 calf and grey seals rest on the sandbanks at low tide. Crucial timing: arrive 1h-1h30 after high tide to see them up close. Binoculars essential. Free parking, equipped observatory. Respect the 300m distance. Best season: July-August (calving) and November-December (moulting).

Horseback riding on the beach: enjoy a horseback outing on the beach at Cayeux-sur-Mer or towards the Pointe du Hourdel. Mount a Henson, the Bay’s emblematic horse, for an authentic ride along the sandy beaches of Marquenterre.
