All you need to know about Saint-Valery-sur-Somme beach

A jewel in the Bay of the Somme

At the end of the quays of our campsite in Saint-Valery-sur-Sommebelow the old town, lies a jewel: the beach of Saint-Valery, with its little bathing cabins and its magnificent view over the Bay of the Somme, which has been awarded the “Grand Site de France” label. You reach the beach by walking along the quays. It’s located opposite the port, at the end of the pier.

Is it possible to swim in Saint-Valery?

We’d better warn you right away: swimming is forbidden on the beach at Saint Valery sur Somme! Why can’t we swim? Firstly, for safety reasons due to the strong tidal currents, but also because of the average quality of the water.

If you’re looking for swimming beaches near St-Valery-sur-Sommeyou can visit Cayeux-sur-Mer, Fort-Mahon, Le CrotoyFort-Mahan-Plage or Berck-Plage.

What to do on the beach at Saint Valery-sur-Somme

So much for swimming! Nevertheless, the beach at Saint Valery is not lacking in assets to seduce holidaymakers. Despite its tourist status, the beach remains wild and unspoilt. The sheep in the bay are a real attraction. It’s also not uncommon to spot grey seals at high tide.

People come here for the scenery and the walks, to enjoy the seaside on the terraces of the bars and restaurants, to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets over the Bay of the Somme.

Can you take your dog to the beach? Dogs are allowed on a leash, but not on the coastal path.

At the end of the Quai Jeanne d’Arc, near the beach, there’s a large play area for children: a wooden castle with balance and climbing apparatus, slides, swings and benches for parents.

Canoeing and kayaking in the Baie de Somme
