Getting around Saint-Valery-sur-Somme

There are various modes of transport for getting around Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and the surrounding area. Whenever possible, opt for environmentally-friendly means of transport such as cycling, walking or public transport.

BY CAR

There is a charge for parking in the town every day of the year, from 9am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 7pm. The Canal car park is a free parking area with no time limits, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This free car park is located near the Somme Canal, at the entrance to Saint-Valery (route d'Abbeville).

CAMPING CARS

The St-Valery motorhome park is located near the town centre, rue de la Croix l'Abbé. Open all year round, it can accommodate around 200 vehicles. Access to water and electricity is included in the price of parking. Alternatively, for a more comfortable stopover, the Camping de la Croix L'Abbé is just a stone's throw away!

BY BUS

In summer, hop on board "La Sauterelle", Saint-Valery-sur-Somme's free shuttle bus! This summer shuttle serves 7 stops in the medieval town, the town centre and the port area.

  • Every day from 15 to 30 April 2023, weekends and public holidays in May, June, September and October,
  • every day in July and August,
  • opening times: 10.30am to 2pm and 3pm to 7pm (every 20 minutes).

BY BIKE

The Baie de Somme boasts 45km of cycle paths, 160km of signposted routes in 9 discovery loops and 210km of road trails in the hinterland.

From Saint-Valery-sur-Somme to Saint-Firmin (in the commune of Le Crotoy), the Vélomaritime EV4 takes you all the way around the Bay of the Somme, from the Pointe du Hourdel to Marquenterre Park. In St-Valery, you can take the route along the maritime canal as far as Abbeville (15 km).

The Vallée de Somme cycle route follows the towpath along the river to the Baie de Somme. The signposted route stretches 200km from Tergnier to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, via Amiens.

There is also a network of "Somme à vélo" node points around Abbeville. The département has installed 2,500 directional signs covering almost 1,500 km2 of the Picardie maritime region.

BY TRAIN (THE CHEMIN DE FER DE LA BAIE DE SOMME)

Every year, more than 200,000 people travel on the Baie de Somme train. For 50 years, this historic train from the Belle Époque has been running on the 25 km of track between Le Crotoy, Noyelles/mer, Saint-Valery and Cayeux. A new train called the "Four Seasons" runs all year round and offers a catering service on board. Departure from Saint-Valery-sur-Somme.
